The Wintergreen Resort is an all-year round vacation destination located on the eastern slopes of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Nelson County, Virginia. Located only 20 miles from the charming university town of Charlottesville, 90 minutes from Richmond, and only a three hour drive from Washington D.C., Wintergreen hotels offer the best of stunning resort living and easy access to one of the country's cherished cities.

Located in a beautiful mountain setting, the 11,000 acres of the Wintergreen resort rises from about 600 feet above sea level at Stoney Creek to nearly 4,000 feet at the top. Spring and summer herald lovely cool weather with low humidity, while winters are cold, with snow allowing for various winter sports from December to March. Fall is glorious, and this is one of the best places to enjoy the dazzling fall colors.

Land, originally known as the Big Survey, was purchased in 1969, and a few short years later the grounds sported a ski area, eight slopes, and three chairlifts. It wasn't long after that that the resort was developed to include many other all-year-round facilities, including a spa, conference center, and more slopes and leisure activities.

Accommodations at Wintergreen hotels include condominiums, studios, and vacation homes that are all surrounded by lush forest vegetation, gurgling streams, and winding hiking trails. These are perfect for family vacations, romantic weekends, and corporate retreats. Offering tremendous mountain views for miles around, Wintergreen Resort accommodations range from studios to nine-bedroom homes, and all feature a comfortable living room and a fully equipped kitchen. This resort follows a "top-down" approach, where all the amenities are built on the peaks and ridges, unlike traditional ski resorts where this happens at the base of the mountains.

An endless variety of activities and facilities are available for all guests, both leisure and corporate, to Wintergreen hotels. Two championship golf courses and a tennis program are the envy of many, while other popular summer pastimes include swimming, fishing, and hiking. Winter provides exhilarating skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing. Special children's programs are available, which allow parents to enjoy some adult time and enjoy the thrills and spills of the slopes on their own.

For those guests wanting to experience and enjoy the cultural heritage of the region, a trip into the university town of Charlottesville provides plenty of opportunity. This city captures the essence of a time gone by, and is surrounded by horse country and vineyards reminiscent of the 18th century. It features an historic downtown with museums, a pedestrian area full of shops and restaurants, and old brick buildings, including the town hall. The residences of two of America's presidents, Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe, are located here, and are open for guests to enjoy. Other fun outings include the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive with beautiful hikes and drives along the Appalachians, hiking in the Ivy Creek or Jagged Mountain Nature reserve, and tubing in the James River. A variety of musical performances in the Blue Ridge Mountains is a delightful cultural interlude in activity-filled days.
